"Hup"
as told by Chubster Chow Chow

"Hi, I'm Chubster Chow Chow. Now, don't let me hear you say that Chow Chows can't jump. Ask me...can I jump? That would be an affirmative! The game of Hup is great for teaching your dog to load up into a tall vehicle. Maybe not the bathtub, but definitely into a vehicle!"

HERE'S HOW THE GAME WORKS

"Get a Hoola-Hoop. Oh, yes, and a treat, naturally. Now, hold the Hoola-Hoop up, but let the bottom touch the floor so I can just walk through it. (Not all dogs learn at the same rate, so you may have to go kind of slow at first. Remember to praise me and reward me with the treat occasionally."

"Okay, now show me the treat and get me to walk through the Hoola-Hoop a couple of times. Now that I've done that, life the Hoola-Hoop slightly off the ground and say 'HUP' as you show me the treat. Remember, the happier you are, the happier I am to do things for you, so let's hear a lot of 'GOOD BOY...HUP'."

Macie says...

The game of Hup is a favorite of many dogs and a real crowd pleaser. You might try it at a family barbecue where you can really show off your dog's abilities!

Remember, your dog is never happier than when he is working for you. And it doesn't hurt if everybody is watching and applauding!
