"Pull"
as told by Mikey Mastiff
"Hi, I'm Mikey Mastiff, and I
just love this game. I get to use my brain, but I also get to
work with my body."
HERE'S HOW THE GAME
WORKS
"For this game we'll need one
harness, one leash, and one gallon jug, plus a lot of those nice
doggy treats. As you've already figured out, I need to put the
harness on. Now, take that empty gallon jug and put a little sand or
water in it to give it some weight. Okay, now tie the leash to the
jug, and hook the other end of the leash to my harness."
"Now this is where the motivation and
treats come in. Stand in front of me, and tempt with with those
treats, saying 'GOOD BOY...PULL...GOOD BOY'. Watch me go!
Gradually add more weight. Maybe you can tie me to a cart, and I
can pull the garbage to the curb (instead of getting INTO the
garbage, hee hee). Or maybe I can pull the kids in their wagon,
or you on your roller-blades. Our options are endless when we're
playing Pull. Remember, a working dog is a happy, healthy
(handsome) dog!"

Macie says...The training of a
guide dog is one of the few examples of a dog appropriately
commanding his owner.
Think about it! A guide dog's job is to keep his owner
out of trouble...to 'guide' his owner to independence. Pet
dogs, on the other hand, should always be trained to defer
to their owners, and to constantly look to them for
guidance!
