Hi! I'm Macie!
Growing up,
I knew I would work in the animal field. I often joked
that I was a wolf in a previous life because I'm able to approach
even the most difficult-to-manage dogs by reading their body language.
My interests in dogs led me to ABS Guide Dogs
in 1985. There, with Paul and Brenda Bouchard
as my mentors,
I studied and worked with dogs every day for two years. When I graduated from the school's course in canine behavior
in 1987,
I continued working with ABS Guide Dogs while setting up my own
canine training business. As
my personal customer base grew, I noted the epidemic problem of
aggressive and other undesirable behavior in family pet dogs. What
was needed was an educational system to end canine aggression
and behavior problems in the family setting.
I had spent
time with a variety of trainers who specialized in the sit-stay
routines of obedience training. But when confronted with canine
behavior problems, these same excellent trainers didn't have a clue
how to get lasting, positive results. That's what prompted me to
develop my own approach to training based on positive
reinforcement underpinned by some pretty strict rules. I know that
the only way to stop canine misbehavior is to build your pet's
respect for you so he or she truly WANTS to be your Mannerly Mutt.

Macie says...Once upon a time,
only kings were allowed to own dogs. This was because dogs
were capable of hunting for food.
Speaking of food, something as simple as a food allergy
can trigger aggressive behavior in a dog. Canine food
allergies can be triggered by corn, wheat and even beef (or
most probably, its additives).
